Filo. Contemporary approach for handcrafted jewellery

Throughout history textile has gain a wide range of significance and usages, assuming different roles according to its value, the time on history and location. One interesting aspect of textile that has been shown is its mutant power to pass from the a essential utility for our body - protection from the external environment: sun, rain, winter, heat- to a symbol of power and hierarchy - the power of impression of linen ruffs on the Queen’s neck. In this aspect garments started to be used more as ornaments rather than with the function of protection. The goal of this research is to explore the garment word, going deeper in fibers, yarns and textile techniques and come out with an innovative approach for a contemporary jewellery. In order to active that we brief contextualize what is contemporary jewellery is and which aspects they challenge the status quo. Based on several historical research which go deep into textile, in terms of history, meaning and techniques emphasizing the differences between them throughout time. The method used in this thesis was discover, analysis and research in textile jewellery throughout the history followed by an theoretical experiment on handmade techniques and its suitability with digital technologies and development of an a contemporary jewelley collection which embrace both aspects handmade technique and garments trends. Inspired by the idea to bring outdoor sports gears to the urban contexts and make them part of our daily life this collection inbound two different trend aspect in one piece: the functional aspects of outdoors gears with a touch of warmness of a handmade technique. The color choice was monochromatic white to create a balance between to contrary concepts. As a conclusion, we could see an intimate relationship between textile and accessories showing once again the intimate dialogue.

Nel corso della storia il tessile ha acquisito una vasta gamma di significati e usi, assumendo ruoli diversi in base al suo valore, al tempo trascorso nella storia. Un aspetto interessante del tessuto che è stato dimostrato è il suo potere mutante di passare dall'utilità essenziale per il nostro corpo - protezione dall'ambiente esterno: sole, pioggia, inverno, calore - a un simbolo di potere e gerarchia - il potere dell'impressione di volant di lino sul collo della regina. Sotto questo aspetto gli indumenti iniziarono ad essere usati più come ornamenti che come funzione di protezione. L'obiettivo di questa ricerca è quello di esplorare la parola abbigliamento, approfondendo le fibre, i filati e le tecniche tessili e tirando fuori un approccio innovativo per un gioiello contemporaneo. Per attivare ciò, contestualizziamo brevemente cos'è la gioielleria contemporanea e quali aspetti sfidano lo status quo. Basato su diverse ricerche storiche che affondano nel tessuto, in termini di storia, significato e tecniche enfatizzando le differenze tra loro nel tempo. Il metodo utilizzato in questa tesi è stato scoprire, analizzare e ricercare gioielli tessili nel corso della storia, seguito da un esperimento teorico sulle tecniche artigianali e sulla sua idoneità con le tecnologie digitali e sviluppo di una collezione gioielli contemporanea che avvolge sia la tecnica artigianale che le tendenze dei capi. Ispirata dall'idea di portare gli ingranaggi sportivi all'aperto nei contesti urbani e renderli parte della nostra vita quotidiana, questa collezione ha inserito due diversi aspetti di tendenza in un unico pezzo: gli aspetti funzionali degli ingranaggi da esterno con un tocco di calore di una tecnica artigianale. La scelta del colore era bianco monocromatico per creare un equilibrio tra concetti contrari. In conclusione, abbiamo potuto vedere un rapporto intimo tra tessile e accessori che mostra ancora una volta il dialogo intimo.
