Everyone today agrees that our modern society has to develop in more sustainable ways. The concept of sustainable fashion implicates persistent effort to enhance all stages of the product’s life cycle, from design to the final sale. The focus should be on ensuring efficient use of natural resources to minimize undesirable environmental effect of the product’s life cycle, selecting renewable sources at every stage, and intensifying repair, remake, reuse, and recycling of the product and its components. However, despite the growing interest in sustainability, counterbalancing actions from fashion companies has not been sufficient to overcome the devastating environmental impacts the rapidly growing industry is creating, the jewellery industry being one of them. For years now the jewellery industry has been blamed on cases such as environmental and child labor in the gold mining industry. Sustainability in Jewellery is a practice of not being harmful to the environment and not being wasteful of natural resources. The fact is that the non-renewable resources like gold and silver are depleting. This project was aimed at developing and promoting sustainable jewellery collection in a way that executes socially and environmentally responsible practices. This practice includes encouraging the use of renewable resources and handcrafting, which is believed to reduce the impact of the jewellery industry on environmental sustainability. All the jewelleries of this project were developed from one of the ancillary materials, paper, along with taking inspiration from African jewellery, in a way that is creative and matches both sustainability and aesthetic value. African jewellery is known to be bold and appealing. All the jewelleries were made by hand, using only tools that are operated by hand. Moreover, the future plans of the project is stated in the second phase of the thesis. The second phase will be mass production of the sustainable jewelleries and donating one dollar from sale of every single jewellery to global afforestation program with special focus to developing countries such as Ethiopia.

Abstract
The second phase will be mass production of the sustainable jewelleries and donating one dollar from sale of every single jewellery to global afforestation program with special focus to developing countries such as Ethiopia.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
