La Pescarina. Riqualificazione del circolo dei canottieri La Pescara

This thesis arises from the awareness of a void in the city center; it is about the city of Pescara, in Abruzzo, and more specifically the Circolo dei Canottieri, the only one in the territory but, despite this, deeply neglected. The aim of this research is: to rehabilitate the goods and to valorize the places; intervene on a symbolic structure of the place hypothesizing a consequent re-evaluation of the entire area and integrate different opportunities of sports related to entertainment. To reach this goal, the thesis analyzes the city, from its origins, describing the period of the territorial division given by the river, up to the point of identifying the break that led to expansive logics of an economic nature, neglecting architectural coherence and historical memory of the place and, consequently, denying the right importance of the natural element in the city. The position of the Circolo dei Canottieri would allow a change, while maintaining its sporting vocation. It would give prominence to the river and the nearby river park, becoming a strong point for the entire area; acting as a bridge between the inhabitants and the natural element and allowing us to rediscover a historical memory that is increasingly being lost. The Pescara riverfront area is not just a big void, it is the element that originates the city.

Questa tesi nasce dalla presa di coscienza di un vuoto nel pieno centro cittadino. Si tratta della città di Pescara, Provincia Abruzzese che affaccia sul Mare Adriatico, e più nello specifico del Circolo dei Canottieri, unico della provincia ma, nonostante ciò, profondamente trascurato. L'obiettivo di questa ricerca è: riabilitare la merce e risarcire i luoghi; intervenire su una struttura simbolo del luogo ipotizzando una conseguente rivalutazione dell’intera zona e integrare opportunità diverse di sport legate all’intrattenimento. Per arrivare a tale proposito la tesi analizza la città, sin dalle sue origini, descrivendo il periodo della divisione territoriale data dal fiume, fino ad individuare la rottura che ha portato a seguire logiche espansive di natura economica, trascurando la coerenza architettonica e la memoria storica del luogo e, di conseguenza, negando la giusta importanza dell’elemento naturale nella città. La posizione del Circolo dei Canottieri permetterebbe di attuare un cambiamento, pur mantenendo la sua vocazione sportiva. Conferirebbe risalto al fiume e al vicino parco fluviale, divenendo un punto di forza per l’intera area; fungendo da ponte tra gli abitanti e l’elemento naturale e permettendo di riscoprire una memoria storica che sempre di più si sta perdendo. L’area del lungofiume di Pescara non è solo una grande vuoto, è bensì, l’elemento che origina la città.
