The historical analysis of the area reinforces the image of Sirmione and the archaeological area of Grotte di Catullo as a link between two elements in strong relationship: Architecture and Natural Landscape on which the first rests; a highly sensory dialogue, which leads us to perceive its importance and conceptual richness, unchanged over time, in the contemporary ages. From the beach you cannot perceive the presence of an ancient and mysterious Villa, totally surrounded by nature that underlined its strong bucolic aspect, its eternal romantic image of ruin violated by the passage of the time. By Nature we mean both the strong and complex topographical identity, the rock, the layers, the geometries of the ruins on the various levels up to the achievement of water, and the constant perception that the eye has when, being in the entrance tablinium, can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the entire Villa, in all its length, up to the blue of the lake. With the promise to respect the Architecture-Nature combination, the project idea came from the new construction approaching to the existing one. The title of the project is Additio, from latin Addition, referring to an expansion of what already exists, and to a consequent translation of the perfect axis on which the Villa was built in antiquity. The result is the simultaneous presence of alignments and signs superimposed on a geometric matrix combined with a skilful control of proportions that does not destroy the formal and constructive harmony of the existing Villa. The front, an inhabited wall that clings to the slope without hiding it, supported by pylons that descend to the rock and rest among the vegetation that grew above it, is completed by the porticus exposition, to evoke the peristilium that enclosed the olive grove, of the hortus conclusus and the piers, stretched out towards the lake. This meant thinking about new layers of geometric and material interpretation, in which nature with its topography has become a design element.

Abstract
This meant thinking about new layers of geometric and material interpretation, in which nature with its topography has become a design element.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
