Risalire la città - risalire la storia. Dall'Aniene al centro di Tivoli

Tivoli, city of myths, waters and ruins, a popular destination for travelers on the Grand Tour, has always fascinated the eye of those who go there thanks to its historical, archaeological and landscape values. Famous for the presence of two important UNESCO sites, Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, it is also characterized by further remains archeological that outline the profile of the city, dotting the path that leads from the river Aniene to the historic center. The imposing vestiges of the Sanctuary of Ercole Vincitore, together with the modern industrial ruins, characterize the northern front of the city and it is in its close proximity that the thesis project takes life. Being part of the International Call "Designing the buffer zone UNESCO" launched in August 2018 on the occasion of the Piranesi Prix de Rome Prize, the project aims to resolve the change in altitude between the Aniene river and the area in front of the Sanctuary. Since this is a rugged and steep area, the project involves the construction of a new recognizable landmark that gives rise to the same ascent system and is able to recall the ancient landscape of Tivoli through the presence of arches, waterfalls and terraces. By managing the tourist flow that moves from Villa Adriana to Villa d'Este, and vice versa, the project proposes to create a new hub that will become an attraction and generator of greater cultural growth, with the aim of revitalizing an area that has long been degraded giving bigger importance to the archaeological values present.

Tivoli, città dei miti, delle acque e delle rovine, meta ambita dai viaggiatori del Grand Tour, da sempre affascina l’occhio di coloro che vi si recano grazie alle sue valenze storiche, archeologiche e paesaggistiche. Famosa per la presenza di due importanti siti UNESCO, Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este, è inoltre caratterizzata da ulteriori resti che disegnano il profilo della città costellando il percorso che dal fiume Aniene conduce al centro storico. Le imponenti vestige del Santuario di Ercole Vincitore, insieme alle moderne rovine industriali, connotano il fronte nord della città ed è nelle sue strette vicinanze che prende vita il progetto di tesi. Inserendosi nell’ambito della Call Internazionale “Designing the buffer zone UNESCO” indetta nell’Agosto 2018 in occasione del Premio Piranesi Prix de Rome, il progetto si propone di risolvere il cambio di quota presente tra il fiume Aniene e l’area antistante il Santuario. Trattandosi di una zona aspra e scoscesa prevede la realizzazione di un nuovo landmark riconoscibile che dia luogo al sistema stesso di risalita e che sia in grado di rievocare l’antico paesaggio di Tivoli attraverso la presenza di archi, cascate e terrazzamenti. Gestendo il flusso turistico che da Villa Adriana si muove verso Villa d’Este, e viceversa, si propone di realizzare un nuovo snodo che diventi fulcro attrattore e generatore di una maggior crescita culturale, avendo come obbiettivo quello di rivitalizzare un’area da tempo degradata conferendo maggior importanza alle valenze archeologiche presenti.
