Abstract
Non-destructive testing methods are very important tools for conservators and art historians to find valuable information about works of art without causing any local damage to them. The basic principles of corrosion and electrochemistry are briefly shortened to indicate the abilities of electrochemical techniques in the diagnostic and conservation of heritage metals. The basic elements of each electrochemical measurement cell, electrolyte, the instrumentation is schematically illustrated in the specific application to cultural heritage. Based on the Different systems several variables were considered, such as the Electrolyte, the type of sponge/cloths. There are only a few studies comparing the different systems proposed for in situ measurements and the influence of the different setups on the obtained results. In particular, the attention of this work was directed on the effects of different electrolytes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
