Una piazza tra due città. Nuovo complesso sportivo a Sesto San Giovanni

The project aims to build a new sports center for the city of Sesto San Giovanni. The area, enclosed between Viale Gramsci and the railways, fits into the Milanese metropolitan area that, through the last years, has been interest by the goal to carry out a transformation like other European cities. In addition to some projects, such as the new railway station, the expansion and updating of the underground line, the bus station, the urban park, overcoming the railway, in the ex-Falck area, will be realized the "City of Health and Research": a new health complex that, based on a project by Renzo Piano, will give new life to the area. The design of the area assumes a strategic importance. It represents a node in which these two new cities meet and join, both in urban and identity terms. Seen the particularity of the area, the multiplicity of functions that will be concentrated in it, and the various ways of living and sharing space, the project is made up of three buildings which, going to dispose themselves inside the area, will create a new urban square. Three buildings differing in shape and size because the sports they contain are different: the new ice rink, which hosts ice sports, positioned at the beginning of the area; the tower, where there are gyms with different disciplines depending on the floor, located in the center of the area; and the swimming pool, located on the border with the park area at the corner of the area.

Il progetto ha come scopo la realizzazione di un nuovo centro sportivo per la città di Sesto San Giovanni. L’area, racchiusa tra Viale Gramsci e la ferrovia, si inserisce in un contesto metropolitano milanese nel quale, soprattutto negli untimi anni, c’è stato l’interesse e la volontà di attuare una trasformazione a scala europea. Oltre a progetti per la stazione ferroviaria, l’ampliamento e aggiornamento della linea metropolitana, l’autostazione autobus, il parco urbano, oltrepassando la ferrovia, nell’area ex Falck, sarà realizzata la “Città della Salute e della Ricerca”, un nuovo complesso sanitario che, su progetto di Renzo Piano, darà una nuova vita all’area. La progettazione dell’area assume così un’importanza strategica. Essa rappresenta un nodo in cui si incontrano e si uniranno queste due nuove città sia sotto l’aspetto urbano che identitario. Data la particolarità dell’area, la molteplicità delle funzioni che in essa saranno concentrate, e i vari modi di vivere e condividere lo spazio, il progetto si compone di tre edifici i quali, andandosi a disporre all’interno dell’area, creeranno una nuova piazza urbana. Tre edifici diversi per forma e dimensione in quanto differenti sono gli sport che essi racchiudono: il nuovo palaghiaccio, che accoglie gli sport su ghiaccio, posizionato all’inizio dell’area; la torre, dove sono presenti palestre con diverse discipline a seconda del piano, situata al centro dell’area; e la piscina, posizionata a confine con la zona a parco all’angolo dell’area.
