Abstract
The crisis of economy and the old Industry along with the trasformation of the labour market encourage a reflection on a new role of Industry. The productive space, historically, has always been considered as a marginal, monotonous, and monofunctional space. The planning of the spaces has not been given the right attention that they would have needed, much less in the forms of dialogue with the city. In the current context, production models based on "re-industrialization" strategies are being defined: rethinking industrial spaces means considering the complexity of the scenario in which they are located, where optimization, rationalization and connection are the basic concepts for design. The area of analisys is Varesotto, between Milan, Varese and Gallarate, and is made out by a spread presence of small, medium and big factories all over the mentioned territory. The morphological reading of the settlement fabric makes it possible to identify large production areas - defined as industrial plaques for the presence of several production units and the diversity of urban materials - and to categorize them on the basis of their relationship with urban settlements nearby. Next readings - infrastructural, orographic, hydrographic and open space - raise questions that lead to in-depth choices. From the explorations of the areas it emerges how it is indispensable, due to their different nature, to work on the relationship with the urban areas and the territory: setting up proposals and relationships between the parts that compose them to improve their quality and livability. The combination of heterogeneous spaces and activities allows a multi-functionality and multi-temporality, as well as an improvement in the quality of the external space open to new social dynamics. The complexity of the areas generates questions regarding criticalities and potentialities on which to draw up strategies both on the scale of the architectural artefact, and on a large scale, involving the elements that make up the territory, to demonstrate that the strategies are then applicable also as a guide for other portions of territory.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
