Nowadays scientific satellites play an important role in space research and Earth-observation. As the lower bands are more and more congested, the shift towards higher bands is necessary and unavoidable. This work, born within the HERMES mission, aims to study the tropospheric impairments at S-band, X-band and Ka-band on non-geosynchronous (non-GSO) space-Earth links. At Ka-band the tropospheric effects are extremely detrimental: the site diversity technique is proposed as a solution to achieve a successful communication link, to this aim a new analytical site diversity model for non-GSO systems (e.g. LEO) is developed showing satisfactory performances.

Abstract
Nowadays scientific satellites play an important role in space research and Earth-observation. High-resolution instrumentation onboard the satellites collect a massive amount of data, hence high data rates are required to download the data to ground stations. LEO) is developed showing satisfactory performances.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
