Imizamo Yethu. Urban and architectural intervention. Zero kilometer approach

This project attempts to explore and tackle the current and unique urban state of Cape Town, South Africa, taking the situation of Imizamo Yethu as a specific context of the circumstances of post-apartheid South Africa. Attempting to create a infrastructural framework tower with the purpose of sustainably and efficiently going against the current post-apartheid state. Due to the unique location, environment, society and culture of Imizamo Yethu, the area creates an opportunity to investigate the idea of development through economic, infrastructural and social interventions in order to create an integrated center for Cape Town population. The project aims to set an example of how informal settlements, formally created by apartheid circumstances in big cities, could be treated.

Il progetto di tesi esplora e affronta le sfide legate a un contesto urbano unico, quello di Città del Capo, in Sud Africa, caratterizzato da dinamiche post-apartheid. Per superare le differenze derivate da queste dinamiche, il progetto propone un sistema infrastrutturale e culturale implementato attraverso sostenibilità ed efficienza. Viste le condizioni di luogo, economia e cultura, l'insediamento informale di Imizamo Yethu crea il pretesto per investigare sviluppo economico, sociale e infrastrutturale. Il progetto si pone come obiettivo la creazione di una metodologia per affrontare le problematiche degli insediamenti informali.
