Weave-viving. Redefinition of phenomenology on an ephemeral setting

Phenomenology in architecture attempts to give a material existence to the human immaterial emotion. In this research, we attempt to understand how this approach can guide architecture in an ephemeral setting. The project site in question has a plural personality. Firstly, it is the site of the massive Hindu festival of “Kumbh Mela” at Prayagraj in India. The MEGA CITY, which hosts millions of people lasting for a few months every six years. The second is the vacant condition the site remains for the remaining period. Personal experience of this duality, interviewing the locals, the history and literature of Prayagraj shall help uncover the systemic urban issues and the opportunities. Using phenomenology as a driver processing the learnings from the research, we shall propose a solution pushing the architecture from being an inanimate structure to interlocking itself with the myths and rituals and becoming monumental.

La fenomenologia in architettura tenta di dare un'esistenza materiale all'emozione immateriale umana. In questa ricerca, cerchiamo di capire come questo approccio può guidare l'architettura in un ambiente effimero. Il sito del progetto in questione ha una personalità plurale. In primo luogo, è il sito del grande festival indù di "Kumbh Mela" a Prayagraj in India. La MEGA CITY, che ospita milioni di persone che durano alcuni mesi ogni sei anni. La seconda è la condizione vacante che il sito rimane per il periodo restante. L'esperienza personale di questa dualità, il colloquio con la gente del posto, la storia e la letteratura di Prayagraj aiuteranno a scoprire le problematiche sistemiche urbane e le opportunità. Usando la fenomenologia come motore che elabora gli apprendimenti della ricerca, proporremo una soluzione che spinge l'architettura da una struttura inanimata a intrecciarsi con i miti e i rituali e diventare monumentale.
