Architettura luogo e spirito. Le Terme di Catullo

The theme and objective of this degree thesis are the enhancement, protection and management of the archaeological heritage of the "Grotte di Catullo" complex in Sirmione, through a project proposal that, by integrating the museum function with a thermal system, can become a new center attractor for a cultural and tourist relaunch of the area, through the improvement of the union existing between architecture, archeology and landscape. This reading necessarily leads to recognizing the original characters of the place and to formulating a new proposal. The project attempts to celebrate something ancient by trying to build a material and spatial connection even with a new language. The project recalls to a narrative of rediscovery of the disappeared place, the story of a story that emerges from layers of terrain, an antiquity that can be observed and interpreted through a reading key of the dialogue between building and place. The project proposes the inclusion of ancient and contemporary functions such as perceptive foundation of the quality of the visit.

Tema ed obiettivo di questa tesi di laurea sono la valorizzazione, la tutela e la gestione del patrimonio archeologico del complesso delle "Grotte di Catullo" a Sirmione, tramite una proposta progettuale che, integrando la funzione museale con un sistema termale, possa diventare nuovo polo attrattore per un rilancio culturale e turistico dell'area, tramite il perfezionamento del connubio esistente tra architettura, archeologia e paesaggio. Questa lettura porta necessariamente a riconoscere i caratteri originali del luogo e a formulare una nuova proposta. Il progetto tenta di celebrare qualcosa di antico provando a costruire connessione materica e spaziale seppur con un nuovo linguaggio. Il progetto richiama ad una narrazione di riscoperta del luogo scomparso, il racconto di una storia che riemerge da strati di terreno, una antichità che può essere osservata e interpretata tramite chiave di lettura del dialogo tra edificio e luogo. Il progetto propone l’inserimento di antiche e contemporanee funzioni come fondamento percettivo di qualità della visita.
