Cities have been formed through time according to different layers; they are illustrations of their society. Many have a notable correlation with their government regarding its urban artifact, and Cairo is identified from the other Islamic cities. For its vibrant historical sites and its famous monuments, it became the capital of the Islamic world and a masterpiece of the urban experience. These periods are Tulunid, Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk, Ottoman. Photography was an essential tool to carry out this research, for its reliability as a medium for architecture regarding documentation and representations aspect, and the ability to produce an accurate image of architecture and its use today. Through descriptions of these periods and its architecture along with a photo survey of which was an essential tool to carry out this research. The research aims to investigate the significance of these periods in the history of Cairo, the expansion of the city, and the development of its architecture. In conclusion, cities are unique for each has its collective memory, that gives each city a unique character. Furthermore, the city’s ruler had a significant effect on changing the city image during these periods in the history Cairo.
Le città si sono formate nel tempo seguendo diversi strati; sono illustrazioni della loro società. Molte hanno una notevole correlazione con il loro governo per quanto riguarda il loro manufatto urbano e il Cairo viene identificato dalle città islamiche circostanti. Per i suoi siti storici vibranti e i suoi monumenti famosi, divenne la capitale del mondo islamico e un capolavoro dell’esperienza urbana. Questi periodi sono Tulunid, Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk, Ottoman. La fotografia è stata uno strumento essenziale per svolgere questa ricerca, per la sua affidabilità come mezzo per l’architettura per quanto riguarda l’aspetto della documentazione e delle rappresentazioni e la capacità di produrre un’immagine accurata dell’architettura e del suo utilizzo oggi. Attraverso la descrizione di questi periodi e la sua architettura insieme a un sondagio fotografico di cui è stato uno strumento essenziale per svolgere questa ricerca. La ricerca mira a indagare il significato di questi periodi nella storia del Cairo, l’espansione della città e lo sviluppo della sua architettura. In conclusione, le città sono uniche, ognuna ha la sua memoria collettiva, che coferiscead ogni città un carattere unico. Inoltre, il sovrano della città ebbe un effetto significativo nel cambiare l’immagine della città durante questi periodi della storia del Cairo.
