The growing incidence that linear models of consumption are having on the planet, particularly on natural resources’ availability, has boosted firms to pursue a more sustainable development growth. In this scenario Circular Economy represents the most recent and sustainable attempt to integrate environmental wellness into the economic aspect. Studies have demonstrated that this model, based on continuous recycling and reusing of generally discarded materials, can be exploited by companies as a source of competitive advantage that simultaneously overcomes the inefficiencies of the classic model. However, the change towards Circular Economy is not a straightforward path for companies. As such, the supply chain represents the critical unit for its implementation, since it has to strategically adapt for an efficient resources recovering. The present work has the primary objective of filling the literature gaps with regard to the supply chain configurations towards the circular models and their implementation thereby. For this reason, a case study methodology seems to be the most appropriate approach to carry out our research. The study focuses on a cross-sectorial analysis of 13 initiatives adopted by companies aiming to align their supply chain to Circular Economy principles. The data collection is constructed upon three main pillars. First, the drivers that incentive firms to undertake the transition. Second, the supply chain configurations and the relative network adjustments needed for the smooth circular transition. Third, managerial practices and challenges faced during the implementation phase. In particular, the research framework has been developed on the Hau-Lee model and aims to evaluate the incidence that the new configurations have on the two uncertainty variables identified by the author. The outcomes of our study highlights the necessity of taking into consideration new elements to properly examine the two dimensions for a Circular Supply Chain. The research also outlines the different impacts that diverse implementations strategies have on the supply processes and on the product demand of selected companies. Finally, it determines both practices adopted and challenges faced by firms taking into account the adverse conditions envisaged in the above mentioned model. In conclusion, on the one hand the thesis enriches the reference literature with new theoretical values; on the other hand, it provides valuable guidelines for both managers and entrepreneurs willing to undertake a circular approach.

Abstract
In conclusion, on the one hand the thesis enriches the reference literature with new theoretical values; on the other hand, it provides valuable guidelines for both managers and entrepreneurs willing to undertake a circular approach.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
