Abstract
The cyclicity of the design process used to slow down the development of a new project. From the 1970s to nowadays, it has changed due to new technology and tool advent. The main advantages come from Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and Virtual Reality (VR) support. Almost the whole process is digital. However, the concept design phase is still based on traditional tools, and digital tools are poor exploited. Human beings' ideas do not last much time. And designers' ones make no exception. Designers need a tool that allows them to save and freeze their ideas, such as sketching rapidly. Nevertheless, paper sketches are outside the digital-based process. While thinking or talking with another person, people use to gesticulate. Hand gestures are elementary movements of a person's hands. They are the atomic communication components representing the thoughts of a person. Since the beginning of computer history, gestures have been studied. They have been considered as the most natural way to interact with the world that surrounds us. Not only with the physical part of it, but also with digital elements and devices such as the computer. Nowadays, mixed reality is entering the design process, more and more. Moreover, while this happens, the fewer designers will use PC peripheral devices, such as mouse and keyboard. Together with Next Industries, the author developed a new interface to give designers more support while 3D modelling. 3D modelling using mouse and keyboard is a complex and unnatural approach. Thanks to a gestural interface, we improved and speeded up this step. We allowed to quickly represent ideas using a 3D model with an intuitive and natural approach.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
