Nowadays, more and more people like dogs and decide to keep dogs. The concept of keeping dogs has also changed. People began to regard them as their family members and give them more care. Unlike cats, dogs need a certain amount of outdoor activity every day, so the owner needs to walk the dog every day to let them explore the world and release stress. However, because the ground outside is not so clean as home, dogs constantly step in the dirt, which may contain trace amounts of excrement, urine, and chemicals from lawn care and pesticides, so the owners choose to wipe or wash their dog’s paws after coming back home. But existing products have disadvantages such as inconvenient operation and making dogs uncomfortable, resulting in people not willing to use such products, and can only use wet towels or wet wipes. This thesis explores the history of dog’s cleaning, analyzing different technologies and various kinds of products on the market, investigating the frequency and manners in which dog owners wash dog's paws and people's views on dirty dog paw, to find a way to not only cleanse dog’s paws but also improve indoor public sanitation, improve the relationship between people and dogs, dog owners and non-dog owners, businesses and customers, and increase people's acceptance of dogs.
