Despite their wide use in urology, ureteral stents are characterized by many side effects and complications, being encrustation formation the main cause of stent failure. In the work here proposed, a novel protocol for the quantitative analysis of the encrustation on ureteral stents is developed. Moreover, an in-vitro model of the urinary tract is designed and manufactured with the goal of study deeper the realation between fluid dynamics and the encrustation process. The results suggest how stent's regions subjected to different fluid mechanic conditions report different encrustation volume distributions.

Abstract
Despite their wide use in urology, ureteral stents are characterized by many side effects and complications, being encrustation formation the main cause of stent failure. In the work here proposed, a novel protocol for the quantitative analysis of the encrustation on ureteral stents is developed. Moreover, an in-vitro model of the urinary tract is designed and manufactured with the goal of study deeper the realation between fluid dynamics and the encrustation process. The results suggest how stent's regions subjected to different fluid mechanic conditions report different encrustation volume distributions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
