Legacy information systems are defined as large and outdated computer systems running obsolete software. Legacy systems have resisted modifications over time and come today with many limitations and issues no more sustainable for the business in the current environment. In particular, these systems lack a uniform documentation, are inflexible and expensive in maintenance, and are structured on obsolete technologies as mainframe system, often developed with obsolete programming languages. Despite these limitations, they embed a relevant volume of organizational knowledge and for this reason their dismission and migration towards updated systems represent a critical process for the organization. Within this context the study of a real corporate case, applied in a Banking context and developed during an Internship, is proposed in order to validate and contextualize theoretical migration methodologies, from both a managerial and technological points of view, with a focus on the architectural dimension of the information system.

Abstract
Legacy information systems are defined as large and outdated computer systems running obsolete software. Legacy systems have resisted modifications over time and come today with many limitations and issues no more sustainable for the business in the current environment. In particular, these systems lack a uniform documentation, are inflexible and expensive in maintenance, and are structured on obsolete technologies as mainframe system, often developed with obsolete programming languages. Despite these limitations, they embed a relevant volume of organizational knowledge and for this reason their dismission and migration towards updated systems represent a critical process for the organization. Within this context the study of a real corporate case, applied in a Banking context and developed during an Internship, is proposed in order to validate and contextualize theoretical migration methodologies, from both a managerial and technological points of view, with a focus on the architectural dimension of the information system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
