Cloister revival. Transforming spatial identity

The theme of the project is restoration of the Societa Umanitaria complex. The complex is located in Milan, Italy and was founded in 1893. After the bombings of 1943, Societa Umanitaria was heavily damaged. It was reconstructed by Giovanni Romano in 1956. However, nowadays, there are some changes that can be done to enhance the spatial design of Societa Umanitaria. The aim of the project is to bring back the spirit of the complex and more specifically to revive the cloister system. The proposed design aims to preserve as much as possible. The new interventions of the project are to be seen as an added value, that is not in conflict with the existing built. Furthermore, the new desing is recognizable from the original layers, as it is keeping the stratification of the building’s history.

Il tema del progetto è il restauro del complesso Societa Umanitaria. Il complesso si trova a Milano, in Italia, e fu fondato nel 1893. Dopo i bombardamenti del 1943, la Societa Umanitaria fu gravemente danneggiata. Fu ricostruito da Giovanni Romano nel 1956. Tuttavia, al giorno d'oggi, ci sono alcuni cambiamenti che possono essere fatti per migliorare il design spaziale della Societa Umanitaria. Lo scopo del progetto è di riportare lo spirito del complesso e più specificamente di rilanciare il sistema del chiostro. Il progetto proposto mira a preservare il più possibile. I nuovi interventi del progetto devono essere visti come un valore aggiunto, che non è in conflitto con il costruito esistente. Inoltre, il nuovo design è riconoscibile dagli strati originali, in quanto mantiene la stratificazione della storia dell'edificio.
