In 2012 Andrea Branzi and Michele De Lucchi confirmed the visionary nature of their approach to the project; they did it with an educational workshop under the evocative title "Living in the Ruins". The focus of the laboratory concerned the building of a series of models of ruined city blocks inspired by images from the city of L’Aquila. While, in that workshop, the term "ruin" referred to what remained of the 2009 earthquake, this thesis aimes at rethinking the concept of ruin in relation to the landscape of the Milan - Bergamo highway section. The current A4 looks completely far from the concept of progress that was originally given to it, both in terms of efficiency and in terms of technological innovation or choice of materials. Milan-Bergamo can be defined a mixture of "waste materials" including the most ordinary constructions, pieces of a casual building, as well as the rest of theories and predictions. Ten years ago Alberto Ferlenga claimed to be in the presence of "new ruins, fragments constantly unfinished and prematurely deteriorated” originated more from a cultural exhaustion than from the passage of time, as if they were "the pieces" of a landscape that still have to take shape. It feels like an almost surrealist builder has started to construct something that then, suddenly, was interrupted for reasons that we will never discover; that’s why you can run into unfinished stairways that lead nowhere, pillars that do not support anything or every kind of architectural anomaly. Neverthless, unfinished architecture represent a place of contemplation and thought, becoming just like monuments capable to give space to the individual’s imagination. Moreover they are fascinating structures able to inspire recent buildings. I can’t deny that this world impressed me too, so much to develop a thesis project based on the reuse of a "young" cement skeleton along the highway MI-BG. Originally designed to be a space dedicated to offices, it never came to life. Within the project, a series of typological operations, infills, subtraction of parts and integration with new buildings represent some of the possibilities compositions investigated.

Abstract
Within the project, a series of typological operations, infills, subtraction of parts and integration with new buildings represent some of the possibilities compositions investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
