ACROSS is designed for flashpackers and independent travellers, people who travel frequently and over long distances all over the world in search of adventures and exotic experiences. These individuals travel for several months a time, visiting multiple destinations. They may wander from metropole to wild nature and back, coping with seasonal and environmental changes on the way. Meanwhile they carry only a single backpack, which contains everything they necessitate for the trip. Such a lifestyle requires clothing intended for travel purposes, reduced to a limited quantity of high-performance garments. At the same time, it has to be aesthetically appealing, while still taking into account the distinct needs of the travel experience, especially concerning climate and activities. Finding the right solution in terms of performance, functionality and aesthetics can be a challenge. To understand and respond to the needs of flashpackers a research has been conducted to outline their characteristics as potential customers. To this end, one has to determine their travel habits and the products they use on a regular basis. Furthermore, this research focuses on high-performing materials from which the designed travel-clothing could benefit from. Flashpackers need products that are easy to use, quick to pack, to wash, dry and wear. They need flexible spaces, that are modular and reorganizable. They need convenience in finding what will serve them in their next adventure. ACROSS solves this problem by offering a product designed to fulfil the needs of flashpackers. Build around a service-platform, ACROSS takes into account all relevant information of the traveller and from it creates an individualized backpack containing all necessary products for an unforgettable experience.
