Pertini school is located in a really complex context. Biccoca and Niguarda are two old districts in Milan which are adjacent to each other and are divided by a street(Viale Fulvio Testi). Today these two districts despite their vicinity are different in terms of quality of life. After building the university of biccoca, the shopping mall biccoca village, hanger biccoca , new metro line and new complex buildings, the district of Biccoca became really popular and expensive and every day is developing. Meanwhile on the other part Niguarda/Ponale district still the old urban fabric can be seen, big social housing complexes, large number of immigrants and low quality of life. Researches show high number of school droppings after first year of high school. it’s a critical mater to educational level and quality of the neighborhood. The average educational level of the neighborhood is low, and its main reason is that educational places in this area, including Pertini school have a really poor quality in design and don’t make a and pleasant environment for students. Today there are many associations organized by inhabitants and Milan municipality, that are working on increasing the opportunities and programs for children and their families. This study aims through a research based and users oriented project, to find answers to the research questions elaborated and so to establish a connection between inhabitants, school and neighborhood, providing a different experience from the current one, which has a lack of good design and pedagogical research. It aims to provide a learning ecology for students to enjoy and stay in school, upgrading the educational level of district and use the school as an element for local integration. This research and the project are meant to be a starter point for future interventions in the school that could reconnect children to high educational level through making them appreciate and experience the new student centered method of learning. While the focus on education has been on what we need to teach, and know, “The Third Teacher” reframes this approach by suggesting what kind of spaces can make this possible.
L’istituto comprensivo Sandro Pertini è situato in un contesto complesso. Bicocca e Niguarda sono due antichi distretti milanesi tra loro adiacenti e divisi dal Viale Fulvio Testi. Oggi tali distretti, nonostante la loro vicinanza sono molto diversi in termini di qualità della vita. Dopo la costruzione dell’Università Bicocca, del centro commerciale ,l’Hangar , la nuova metropolitana e le nuove costruzioni , il distretto Bicocca ha acquisito molta popolarità, divenendo costoso ed in continua espansione. Al contrario, la zona antistante, ossia Niguarda/Ponale, è caratterizzata da vecchie costruzioni urbane e grandi complessi abitativi; vi risiede, altresì un rilevante numero di immigrati anche per via del basso costo della vita. Le ricerche mostrano un alto tasso di abbandono degli studi dopo il primo anno di scuola superiore; nel comprensorio il tasso di istruzione è abbastanza basso, ed anche per questo gli istituti scolastici di zona, compreso il Pertini, non investono molto in design e nel creare un ambiente piacevole per gli studenti. Oggi ci sono molte associazioni organizzate dal Comune di Milano che cercano di incrementare le opportunità e i programmi di inserimento per i bambini e le loro famiglie. Il presente è uno studio di ricerca orientato ai bisogni degli utenti, e si pone il fine di trovare delle risposte a loro adeguate e incentivare una connessione fra gli abitanti e l’ambiente circostante e così migliorare il grado di sviluppo dal punto di vista didattico e favorendo l’integrazione sociale. Questa ricerca è pensata per fornire un punto di partenza per futuri interventi in ambito scolastico che consenta di migliorare il livello di istruzione ponendo al centro del metodo di insegnamento lo studente. Mentre il focus educativo è sempre stato incentrato su ciò che è necessario insegnare e apprendere, “The Third Teacher” riformula questo approccio suggerendo gli spazi che possono renderlo possibile.
