Connecting landscapes. Residenza, ospitalità e creatività per l'Ile de Nantes

The city of Nantes is undergoing a major renovation of its spaces that were once dedicated to industry and which are now abandoned. The Ile de Nantes is the center of this rebirth which in a few years has brought Nantes from a city with a strong industrial footprint to a place devoted to creativity and culture. "Connecting Landscapes" investigates the development of the island's landscape, with a project that can be included in the renewal plan by developing the themes specific to this process and with themes specific to the present that can further bind together the different realities of the island and the city. Residence, Hospitality and Creativity are the basis of the project connecting the different realities of the island and the city within it, acting as a hub for the surrounding neighborhoods and beyond. The project develops different themes of residence and hospitality with temporary solutions such as the hospitality system for users of nearby and developing hospitals in the area, semi-temporary such as student residences, also with a look at the education realities nearby, and in the long term with a system of social residences for young couples and families. The theme of creativity and culture fits with co-working areas, co-studying areas, meeting spaces and an auditorium, in addition to other public functions that can allow the entire system to be experienced at any time. The position of the project proposal is at a meeting point between the already developed area of the Plan-Guide and the one in the making, placing itself as the curtain of a completed process and as a starting point for the subsequent expansion. Furthermore, the theme of elevation poses a point of view that does not exceed that of the consolidated landscape of the neighborhood and the large cranes of the Parc des Chantiers, but which offers a view from a central position not only on the Ile de Nantes but on the city and both sides of the Loire, projecting a single large landscape. Addressing the issues of the type in architecture, the work investigates the typological substrate that has characterized the development of the island and seeks in the interpenetration of typological elements the development for its different spaces and functions.

La città di Nantes è da anni al centro di un rinnovamento urbano che ha come tema principale la riqualificazione degli spazi della città un tempo di forte vocazione industriale e successivamente dismessi. L’Ile de Nantes è il centro nevralgico di questa rinascita che in pochi anni ha portato Nantes da città a forte impronta industriale a luogo votato alla creatività e alla cultura. “Connecting Landscapes” indaga sullo sviluppo del paesaggio dell’isola, con un progetto che possa inserirsi nel piano di rinnovamento sviluppando le tematiche proprie di questo processo e con temi propri del presente che possano ulteriormente legare tra loro le diverse realtà dell’isola e della città. Residenza, Ospitalità e creatività sono alla base del progetto connettendo le diverse realtà dell’isola e della città al suo interno ponendosi come hub per i quartieri limitrofi e non solo. Il progetto sviluppa diversi temi della residenza e dell’ospitalità con soluzioni temporanee come il sistema di ospitalità per gli utenti degli ospedali vicini e in sviluppo nell’area, semi-temporanee come le residenze per studenti, anch’esse con uno sguardo alle realtà universitarie presenti e in divenire, e a lungo termine con un sistema di residenze sociali per giovani coppie e famiglie. Il tema della creatività e della cultura si inserisce con aree di co-working, per lo studio, spazi di aggregazione e un auditorium, oltre ad altre funzioni pubbliche che possano permettere all’intero sistema di essere vissuto in qualunque momento. La posizione della proposta progettuale si pone in un punto di incontro tra l’area già sviluppata del Plan-Guide e quella in divenire, ponendosi come sipario di un processo concluso e come partenza per la successiva espansione. Inoltre il tema dell’elevazione pone un punto di vista che non supera quello del paesaggio consolidato del quartiere e delle grandi gru del parco dei cantieri ma che offre all’utenza uno sguardo da una posizione centrale non solo sull’Ile de Nantes ma sulla città ed entrambe le sponde della Loira proiettando un unico grande paesaggio. Affrontando le tematiche del tipo in architettura il lavoro ricerca le basi tipologiche che hanno caratterizzato lo sviluppo dell’isola e cerca nelle compenetrazioni tra elementi tipologici lo sviluppo per i suoi diversi spazi e funzioni.
