This study investigates and captures the steps adopted by various multinational corporates to maintain or enhance their market position by utilizing latest innovation tools, methodologies and working patterns similar to a successful start-up. The initial focus of the study is on the organizational structure and the best-in-class innovation initiatives from Merck Innovation Center of Merck KgaA, located in Darmstadt, Germany where I have pursued my internship for a year in Innovation Process Management. Aside from Merck, there is a comprehensive study on the corporate innovation methods adopted by 13 renown organizations across the world, and the reasons behind this shift with real-life examples. And Finally, a high-level analysis and overview of Innovation methodologies adopted by 73 organizations by their respective innovation facilities, with a differentiation based on multiple industries. This study emphasizes on the current and upcoming trends within the corporates to launch their own Innovation Centers, Hubs, Labs or similar facilities to bring about a “Business as unusual” mindset. The goal for these potential spin-offs realized through the innovation projects from their dedicated innovation facilities and methodologies, would be to drive out any type of direct or indirect competition within or even beyond the same industry. In fact, these revolutionary changes will also help create a competitive advantage for the multinational corporates to stay up-to-speed or even a step ahead of their legacy competition. The result of this study confirms that the innovation methodologies, a shift in the mindset and culture within the organization, and the ability to rapidly adapt to the shifting trends in the market, will ensure that the corporate giants with their dedicated innovation facilities, can always remain one-step ahead of their competitors and drive positive changes.
