This thesis presents a 10-bit resolution and 800 MHz bandwidth Analog-to-Digital Converter based on a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator, with a sample rate of 2 GHz. Featuring a 16x Time-Interleaved structure, it is a highly digital time-based data converter and, thanks to this, fully compatible with technology scaling. This work has been carried on with a Matlab model development of the complete 16x Time-Interleaved system and with the design, together with physical implementations in 28nm CMOS technology node, of the core of each sub-ADC channel, i.e. the design of critical blocks (such as Ring Oscillator and digital elements) defining ultimate resolution for the complete Analog-to-Digital converter. With an area of 0.0015mm2, the single physically implemented core provides a VCO tuning range of 9.3 GHz, which corresponds to a maximum obtainable resolution for the global converter of 10.07 bits. The average power consumption for the single core is less than 500uW.
