Spazi della produzione e luoghi della socialità. Un progetto per l'area di Porto di Mare

Located in the South-West of the Municipality of Milan, the area of Porto di Mare is a margin of contact between the rural territory of “Parco Agricolo Sud” and the city of Milan. In this regard, it is configured as a hinge between profoundly different realities: “Autostrada del Sole” and Rogoredo Station to the East, pedestrian and bicycle paths that link the urban to the historic village of Chiaravalle to the West and some historical social housing neighborhoods to the North. Starting from a general masterplan, realized after some morphological and typological analyses of the context, and based on the relationship with infrastructures and speed, as well as on the energy issue, the thesis aims to a deeping of the theme of production in areas on the road to regeneration and in direct contact with the spaces of leisure and everyday life. These topics are declined at the architectural level on the themes of bifrontism, on functional and typological mix, on the iconicity and the multiple meanings of productive buildings, each of them elements able to link together apparently irreconcilable realities. Through the creation of a new mixed-use neighborhood, we therefore try to imagine a city capable of interpreting contemporary living needs and all the contradictions of a marginal context such as the area concerned. There are many subjects covered: what is the contribution of architects in solving complex urban issues in places of greatest fragility; how the diversity of uses and actors, increasingly alive in the reality of cities of today, can be tackled from the perspective of more liveable public spaces and workplaces, able to satisfy citizens’ requirements who live there; and finally, what relationship exists between work spaces and society, between factory, productivity and city. With the aim of finding an answer to these questions, the paper deals with these issues, both by a theoretical point of view and in terms of design, providing an overview of the conditions of the area and its possible transformations and studying a coherent proposal that puts to system some theoretical problems related to the contemporary city issues and the ones of the examined case.

Situata a sud Ovest del Comune di Milano, l’area di Porto di Mare costituisce un margine di contatto tra il territorio agricolo del Parco Sud e la città meneghina. In tal senso, essa si configura come cerniera tra realtà profondamente differenti tra loro: l’Autostrada del Sole e la Stazione di Rogoredo ad est, i percorsi ciclopedonali che legano l’urbano al borgo storico di Chiaravalle ad ovest e i quartieri storici di edilizia sociale a nord. Prendendo le mosse da un Masterplan generale, realizzato a seguito di un’analisi morfologica e tipologica del contesto e basato sul rapporto con l’infrastruttura e la velocità, nonché sulla questione energetica, la tesi mira ad un approfondimento del tema della produzione in aree in via di riqualificazione e a diretto contatto con gli spazi dello svago e del vivere quotidiano. Tali questioni vengono declinate a livello architettonico sui temi del bifrontismo, del mix funzionale e tipologico, sull’iconicità e i molteplici significati dell’edificio produttivo, elementi in grado di legare tra loro realtà in apparenza inconciliabili. Attraverso la creazione di un nuovo quartiere ad uso misto, si prova dunque ad immaginare una città capace di declinare le esigenze del vivere contemporaneo e le contraddizioni insite in un contesto di margine quale quello dell’area in esame. Le tematiche trattate sono molteplici: qual è il contributo che il progettista può dare nella risoluzione di questioni urbane complesse nei luoghi di maggior fragilità; in che modo la diversità di usi e attori, sempre più viva nella realtà delle città odierne, può essere affrontata nell’ottica di spazi pubblici e del lavoro sempre più vivibili, capaci di soddisfare le necessità dei cittadini che li abitano; e, infine, quale rapporto esiste tra spazi del lavoro e società, tra fabbrica, produttività e città. Con lo scopo di fornire una risposta a questi interrogativi, l’elaborato declina tali domande sia a livello teorico che a livello progettuale, fornendo una panoramica sulle condizioni dell’area e sulle possibili trasformazioni, e studiando una proposta coerente che metta a sistema le questioni teoriche, legate ai problemi della città contemporanea, e quelle contingenti del caso preso in analisi.
