This thesis tries to better understand and frame the contemporary “urban crisis” caused by tourism-related issues through a comparison between urban development models and design-driven approach for urban innovation strategies and projects. The research is focused on factors linked to the crisis of identity of those cities that are more and more losing an authentic and original social fabric because of an excessive “short- term” tourism offer. Case studies, such as the Mouraria area in Lisbon (Portugal) and the Mural village projects in the Gamcheon cultural village in Busan (Korea), are used to focus on how those crises could be overcome. Using the Tourism Area Life Cycle Model (TALC), the analysis comes to the conclusion that, after reaching the limit of the development of tourism in the city, a design-driven approach is needed. This thesis findings focus on what to consider and what to improve by using the design-driven approach for urban innovation.

Abstract
This thesis findings focus on what to consider and what to improve by using the design-driven approach for urban innovation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
