In modern aircraft design there is a growing need for new high-power converters and, in this context, innovative solutions to provide high efficiency and power density are required. In the following work it will be analyzed the possible application of a contactless power transfer system by feeding a rotary transformer placed on the helicopter rotor shaft in order to transfer energy to the deicing system mounted on the blades. The entire system aims to replace the nowadays power transfer technology based on slip rings, that are critical systems in terms of maintenance and reliability. Considering the parameters deriving from a previous sizing of the optimal rotary transformer, greater attention will be paid to the power converter topology and to its design process, seeking the most suitable for the purpose. The employing of magnetic integration and soft switching techniques may lead to a desired efficiency improvement.

Abstract
