This thesis work has been deployed as an empirical analysis on the Italian market considering the stage of development of a "culture of failure and experimentation" for digital innovation processes within Italian companies. Globalization and digital technologies have increased the speed and frequency needed for an effective innovation process. Companies today are facing ever more stringent innovation challenges in terms of time, costs and results, and traditional innovation models are often slow, expensive and unsuitable. It is necessary to develop a systematic approach, primarily for Digital Innovation, to apply working methods and organizational models capable of actively responding to the proposed challenges, in order to create a culture of experimentation and learning within today's companies, including accepting failure and error events. In fact, every innovation process is characterized by a certain level of uncertainty, which can lead to a failing project; it is therefore necessary to develop a culture suitable to react to these challenges, in particular towards Digital Innovation, due to the increasingly pervasive diffusion of digital technologies in different sectors and business areas. The candidate, through an empirical approach, analysed the Italian context, extrapolating the key factors to foster such cultural change. The aim is to explain what are the necessary aspects to consider, identified in Formalization, Engagement and Communication, for the creation of a culture of experimentation and failure. The candidate analysed these aspects considering their impact on the organization and how they contribute in generating a change that promotes learning, responsibility for results and inter-company communication. The thesis work was developed through a critical analysis of the existing literature on the culture of experimentation and the study of six significant cases of Italian companies, with the aim of understanding the practical application of these aspects within them.
Questo lavoro di tesi è stato implementato come analisi empirica sul mercato italiano considerando lo stadio di sviluppo di una "cultura del fallimento e della sperimentazione" per i processi di Innovazione Digitale all'interno delle aziende italiane. La globalizzazione e le tecnologie digitali hanno aumentato la velocità e la frequenza necessarie per un processo efficace di innovazione. Le aziende oggi si trovano ad affrontare sfide di innovazione sempre più stringenti in termini di tempi, costi e risultati, e spesso i modelli tradizionali di innovazione risultano lenti, costosi e inadatti. E’ necessario sviluppare un approccio sistematico, in primis per l’Innovazione Digitale, applicare metodologie di lavoro e modelli organizzativi capaci di rispondere attivamente alle sfide proposte, al fine di creare una cultura di sperimentazione e apprendimento all'interno delle aziende di oggi, anche accettando eventi di fallimento ed errore. Infatti, ogni processo di innovazione è caratterizzato da un certo livello di incertezza, che può sfociare in un progetto fallimentare; risulta quindi necessario lo sviluppo di una cultura adatta a reagire a tali sfide, in particolare verso l’Innovazione Digitale, a causa della sempre più pervasiva diffusione delle tecnologie digitali su diversi settori e aree aziendali Il candidato, attraverso un approccio empirico, ha analizzato il contesto italiano, estrapolando i fattori chiave per favorire tale cambiamento culturale. L'obiettivo è quello di spiegare quali sono gli aspetti necessari da considerare, identificati in Formalizzazione, Engagement e Comunicazione, per la creazione di una cultura di sperimentazione e del fallimento. Il candidato ha analizzato tali aspetti considerandone l’impatto sull’organizzazione e come contribuiscano a generare un cambiamento che promuova l’apprendimento, la responsabilizzazione sui risultati e la comunicazione interaziendale. Il lavoro di tesi è stato sviluppato tramite un’analisi critica della letteratura esistente sulla cultura della sperimentazione e lo studio di sei casi significativi di aziende italiane, con lo scopo di comprendere l’applicazione pratica di questi aspetti al loro interno.
