The purpose of this study is to provide a framework for a successful traceability system implementation within the supply chain context. A literature review on stakeholder theory and contingency theory provides the theoretical lenses to apply to the design of the analysis and to the interpretation of the findings. This study is structured as a multiple case study, performed on the distribution network of medicinal products in three European countries and across multiple stakeholders. The analysis of the cases identifies the most important contingent factors, enablers and barriers impacting on the implementation of a digital traceability system in the European pharmaceutical supply chain, along with the benefits that are expected from the stakeholders involved. The analysis also investigates the dynamics that originate among stakeholders and their attitude toward the project, identifying the most influential stakeholders for the implementation process and showing a change in stakeholders’ attitude. This is the first study providing an empirical evidence on the implementation of a traceability system within an entire sector, considering also the dynamics that originate among stakeholders.

Abstract
This is the first study providing an empirical evidence on the implementation of a traceability system within an entire sector, considering also the dynamics that originate among stakeholders.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
