As the markets become more global and competitive, Logistics emerges as an important area in terms of customer service and costs. In today’s competitive world, firms wish to focus on their core competencies and prefer to use outsourcing for other activities and processes. Transactional, operational and repetitive activities are largely outsourced. For most of the manufacturing firms, Logistics is not a core competency but an essential function to gain competitive advantage. Moreover, Logistics management is important for organizations to reduce costs and assets, improve order fill rates, shorten order-cycle time and achieve better cash-to-cash cycles. The increased importance of Logistics in supply chains explains why the evaluation of Logistics effectiveness and efficiency is gaining increased importance. Logistics Performance Measurement is the key to quantifying the current state and improvement potentials within Logistics. In this regard, this report aims to identify and give suggestions on how to measure the Logistics Performance of a textile supply chain as this thesis is based on a case study at a major Italian textile company. This thesis develops a conceptual framework which focuses on the design of a Logistics Performance Measurement system (PMS). The conceptual framework also adopts Kraljic matrix to segment Logistics suppliers and also suggests performing a Price Analysis to identify competitive Logistics suppliers in terms of tariffs. The PMS is designed by considering the Company, Industry and Supply Chain characteristics. The study is expected to establish KPIs for Strategic and Operational macro-criteria such as Responsiveness, Reliability, Flexibility, Price, Sustainability and Accessibility. Furthermore, the relative weights or importance of these criteria and KPIs is computed using an extensively used methodology called Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). In the end, an Action plan is developed by combining the results of Price Analysis and KPI Framework, which mainly comprises a set of action to be implemented in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Logistics purchase in the case company.

Abstract
In the end, an Action plan is developed by combining the results of Price Analysis and KPI Framework, which mainly comprises a set of action to be implemented in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Logistics purchase in the case company.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
