The purpose of this thesis is to suggest a building intervention related to the city of Milan, which is being defined as one of the most proactive and innovative urban centers in Europe. Last year, the metropolitan city of Milan, the capital of Lombardy, won The Best city Award 2019. It was the city that has distinguished itself most in the panorama of design on a global basis, overcoming cities as Sharjah, Shanghai, Helsinki and Vancouver. Furthermore, according to “Il Sole 24 ore” newspaper, Milan is the Italian town with the best quality of life. The area where I want to check the possibility of a new construction intervention is located in a northern district of the city, the Maciachini area, in a "result" lot whose position is between four high-traffic roads and which in itself has no urban value and no significant features for now. My intervention aims to enhance this space by using it to create new quality residences without consuming new outdoor areas and to create a visual reference for the neighborhood together with a "protected" space for public use, along the way of the cycle path that goes tangent to the lot. The choice of the project is to raise a very visible tower building (18 floors) in the surroundings, with a square base, located on the wider side north of the lot. Regarding the possibility of solutions with a low environmental impact, I have identified some choices such as the use, for the underfloor heating and cooling system, of heat pumps connected to the photovoltaic, placed both on the roof and on the ventilated facades, using the panels fixed on the frame of the blind walls and connected to the geothermal that exploits the constant temperature (of the soil or water) during the different seasons. Rrainwater is recovered in underground cisterns which allows its use, before being introduced into the sewage system, for the irrigating the greenery and for the non-potable part of the building's water system. Even for the electrical system, substantial savings can be obtained with home automation which can allow optimal management of houses even at "distance", adapting to the specific needs and times of use of each resident. Although the project is not defined in detail for every aspect, since detailed executive developments would be needed for each sector (structures, systems, thermal and acoustic insulation, etc.), the general idea is to create an innovative and cutting-edge building able to reflect the needs of current and future society with a view to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to suggest a building intervention related to the city of Milan, which is being defined as one of the most proactive and innovative urban centers in Europe. Last year, the metropolitan city of Milan, the capital of Lombardy, won The Best city Award 2019.
