This thesis is based on the investigation of quality in pharmaceutical products, with an in-depth analysis of the state of the art of pharmaceutical Quality by Design (QbD). It also deals with the differentiation of the various possible levels of quality in drugs, the difference between the perceived and real quality, as well as the distinction between the quality of the product from a business and production perspective, as opposed to that detected by the end user. The aim is to identify the designer’s current role in pharmaceutical design, with attention to its future desirable evolution, aimed at better communication and usability of the drug, while considering its contextual constraints.
