Mycelium spaces. Ripensare al design sostenibile

The interior design can now have the tools to create completely biodegradable temporary spaces and inserted in a natural regeneration cycle. Starting from the attention to sustainability that characterizes our era, this thesis aims to trace a state of the art of existing biodegradable and innovative materials, imagining their use for the creation of different types of spaces and architectures, ephemeral and totally sustainable, which they are not impactful, especially when designing for environments characterized by the presence of nature. The great potential of the mushroom mycelium, already used in the field of design and installation, is then investigated to verify its possibilities in interior design.

Il design degli interni può avere oggi gli strumenti per realizzare spazi temporanei completamente biodegradabili e inseriti in un ciclo naturale di rigenerazione. A partire dall’attenzione alla sostenibilità che caratterizza la nostra epoca, questa tesi vuole tracciare uno stato dell’arte dei materiali biodegradabili ed innovativi esistenti, immaginando un loro uso per la realizzazione di diversi tipi di spazi e architetture, effimere e totalmente sostenibili, che non siano impattanti, in particolar modo quando si progetta per ambienti caratterizzati dalla presenza della natura. Vengono approfondite quindi le grandi potenzialità del micelio di funghi, già utilizzato nel campo dell’oggetto di design e dell’istallazione, per verificarne le possibilità nella progettazione degli interni.
