In today modern cities urban sports and sustainable regeneration are two keywords on which designers and institutions are constantly debating. This research focuses on this item from a urban design point of view, based on the ongoing city transformations, as well as from a sociological and commercial perspective. These elements are often the common point between city makers and regenerative urban design. This study shows a multidisciplinary approach on the topic. How cities or restricted areas are changing their aspect by the means of urban resilience and regeneration. We will try to point out the key aspects of the integrated visions and skills: they are apparently different but they alla contribute to che common goal of transformation. Urban sports and their positive influence on these project will be shown as a fundamental skill in creating new vibrant spaces for the citizens. The will of city makers, which are the main characters in urban regeneration, is to enhance their neighborhoods by creating public spaces in which social relations are on stage: this vision brings to public urban facilities around the public areas of today cities. In these renewed scenery, the sport values of integration and openness live together and show a new libel way of living public spaces. Sport is the tool by which this process becomes relevant also for city branding strategies of regeneration, when cities feel the need to show their best aspects to the world. Apart form sporting facilities, the community hubs incorporate other public services and functions, creating a dynamic environment in which creativity and social mixing create a vibrant environment. Projects like Project backboard and similar are developing are growing all over the world and their experiences are listed in many case studies to better understand the topic, showing the variety of the project which is strongly linked to its planners:the citizens
La tesi indaga un argomento di attualità nel contesto delle città moderne, analizzando la connessione che si è stabilita negli ultimi 20 anni tra URBAN SPORTS e RIGENERAZIONE URBANA. L’ argomento è preso in considerazione tramite un punto di vista urbanistico, riferito in modo particolare alle fasi di mutazione costante delle città, un punto di vista sociologico e un’ altro ancora legato al marketing e allo storytelling che costituiscono spesso il punto di contatto tra city makers e regenerative urban design. Questo studio riporta, quindi, una visione multidisciplinare del tema di come una città e in modo particolare alcuni quartieri difficili si rigenerano, una visione solo apparentemente complessa. In realtà si pone l’ accento proprio sull’ importanza di integrare visioni e competenze così diverse tra loro ma che concorrono a un’unico obiettivo: contribuire al cambiamento. A questo processo analitico sulla condizione attuale delle città e del loro cambiamento si aggancia il tema degli sport urbani e in particolare degli sport community hub. La volontà dei city makers, ovvero gli attori della rigenerazione urbana, che sono in primis i cittadini di contribuire, di valorizzare i propri quartieri attraverso spazi di valorizzazione vicendevole delle relazioni, si traduce in questo studio nelle sport facilities urbane. Luoghi in cui i valori dello sport, dell’ apertura e dell’ integrazione convivono e attualizzano un nuovo modo liberale di pratica dei luoghi urbani dai confini spaziali e molto accessibili. Lo sport è lo strumento attraverso il quale questo processo di riqualificazione urbana diventa rilevante anche all’ interno di più ampie strategie di city branding in cui le città sentono l’ esigenza di raccontarsi con efficacia per mezzo di esempi urbani di assoluto valore sociale. Da un occhio più approfondito sul tema ci si accorge presto che la natura sportiva di questi luoghi diventa marginale se si considera il fermento artistico, culturale, musicale ecc che si genera in queste communities. Realtà come Project Backboard negli USA, insieme a diversi casi studio sparsi in tutto il mondo, avvalorano questo studio mostrando la varietà di un progetto che è indiscutibilmente legato ai suoi progettisti: i cittadini.
