New approach for the concept selection of process plants based on space categorization and historical data

The research carried out describes the development of an innovative approach for the concept selection in process plants, with a particular focus on the offshore Oil & Gas platforms. This approach is based on the categorization of spaces and aims to use the historical data and the 3D modelling to support the initial estimates, necessary for the correct evaluation and choice of the concept. After a brief description of the estimation techniques useful for evaluating the investment costs, the first part of the research reports a description of the general methodologies used to acquire the necessary know-how, to structure the proposed approach and to evaluate the expected results. In the second part the author proposes the developed approach, with direct reference to the development of the external part (deck) of the offshore platforms. The approach is accompanied by a series of insights related to the concepts and techniques used and by a section dedicated to the development of the architecture of a database, identified as the optimal tool for the collection and organization of the historical data. The work ends with the application in a specific case of the development of the database structure.

Il lavoro svolto descrive lo sviluppo di un approccio innovativo per la concept selection negli impianti di processo, con un focus particolare sulle piattaforme petrolifere in ambito offshore. Tale approccio è basato sulla categorizzazione degli spazi e mira all'utilizzo dei dati storici e della modellazione 3D per supportare le stime iniziali, necessarie alla corretta valutazione e scelta del concept. Dopo una breve descrizione delle tecniche di stima utili alla valutazione dei costi di investimento, la prima parte dell'elaborato riporta una descrizione delle metodologie generali utilizzate per acquisire il know-how necessario, strutturare l'approccio proposto e valutare i risultati attesi. Nella seconda parte l'autore propone l'approccio sviluppato, con diretto riferimento allo sviluppo della parte esterna (deck) delle piattaforme offshore. L'approccio è corredato da una serie di approfondimenti relativi a concetti e tecniche utilizzate e da una sezione dedicata allo sviluppo dell'architettura di un database, identificato come strumento ottimale per la raccolta e l'organizzazione dei dati storici. Il lavoro si chiude con l'applicazione in un caso specifico dello sviluppo della struttura del database.
