Un nuovo fronte per il limite urbano : progetto di un sistema di torri a Porto di Mare

Milan is a city that over the years has developed according to a radiocentric system. The uncontrolled dispersion that result from this growth led to a decisive imbalance between the highly urbanized and morphologically defined city center and the peripheral and rural areas that face an increasingly growing state of degradation. The following thesis project takes place in an area located on the outskirts of the municipality of Milan: Porto di Mare. It’s a site that presents several and multiple critical issues at environmental, landscape, social and morphological level. Over the years plans and projects have been foreseen within the area which however have never been completed, this has led to the creation of a fragmented area characterized by spontaneous and precarious structures dedicated mainly to production and sport . It’s a clear example of transition from the consolidated urban fabric defined by the Mazzini district in the north, to the purely agricultural system in the South-West area that leads to the Chiaravalle abbey. Addressing the theme of the “urban edge”, the general project is made up of 3 distinct parts, which at the same time attach each other and act as a hinge between the strong texture of the city and the more fragile warp of the countryside. A new “urban threshold” is therefore defined: four towers that interface with Via Fabio Massimo and the Mazzini district will act as a bulwark for the new “virtual walls” at the end of the expansion of the contemporary city. Two appendices will be generated from this point, one of which related to the agricultural park and slow mobility overlooking Via S.Dionigi, and the other linked to the motorway junction and fast mobility. Through the presented project we wanted to introduce a new urban limit that would become a meeting point between the city and the natural system. The goal was achieved by inserting four towers linearly developed and elevated on a paved plate that connects the altitude of the road with the altitude of the park, in order to give the city a new urban front. This operation aims to allow a symbiosis between the city and what is currently an offshoot of the latter. Each element of the project will therefore contribute to the functioning and maintenance of a new epicenter and hub for the city of Milan.

Milano è una città che nel corso degli anni si è sviluppata secondo un sistema radiocentrico. I processi di ampliamento hanno comportato un decisivo squilibrio fra il nucleo centrale della città morfologicamente definito e sostanzialmente consolidato e le aree periferiche e semi-rurali che ne costituiscono il margine che spesso versano in uno stato di degrado crescente. Il progetto di tesi si inserisce in un’area situata ai limiti del comune di Milano: Porto di Mare, un sito che presenta diverse e molteplici criticità a livello ambientale, paesaggistico, sociale e morfologico. Nel corso degli anni sono stati messi a punto piani e progetti di ridefinizione dell’area che tuttavia non sono mai stati portati a termine, ciò ha portato alla nascita di una condizione frammentata e caratterizzata da strutture spontanee e precarie, dedicate principalmente alla produzione e allo sport. Si è determinata così una condizione di discontinuità rispetto sia al tessuto urbano consolidato definito dal quartiere Mazzini a Nord, sia al sistema prettamente agricolo nella zona Sud-Ovest che conduce all’abbazia di Chiaravalle. Affrontando il tema del “bordo urbano” il progetto si compone di tre parti ben distinte , ma che allo stesso tempo sono poste in relazione e fungono da cerniera tra la trama forte della città e l’ordito più labile della campagna. Il progetto vuole definire una nuova “soglia urbana”: quattro torri che si interfacciano con Via Fabio Massimo e il quartiere Mazzini fungeranno da segnale delle nuove “mura virtuali” a conclusione del tessuto di margine, linea costitutiva del suo contenimento e della sua rigenerazione. Da questo nuovo limite si diramano due sequenze di nuovi spazi di cui una relazionata al parco agricolo e alla mobilità lenta che si affaccia su Via S.Dionigi, e l’altra legata al raccordo autostradale e alla mobilità veloce. Tramite il progetto presentato si è voluto restituire un nuovo limite urbano che divenisse un punto di incontro tra la città ed il sistema naturale. L’obiettivo si è raggiunto mediante l’inserimento delle quattro torri citate precedentemente, sviluppate linearmente ed elevate su una piastra pavimentata che connette la quota della strada con la quota del parco, in modo da restituire alla città un nuovo fronte urbano. In conclusione, questo intervento vuole consentire una simbiosi tra la città e quella che attualmente è a tutti gli effetti una propagine di quest’ultima. Ogni elemento del progetto contribuirà pertanto al funzionamento e al mantenimento di un nuovo epicentro e nodo per la città di Milano.
