In recent years, many manufacturers have started to prefer more sustainable and environmentally friendly materials and production processes, and the fashion sector is no exception to this trend. Indeed, worldwide increasing demand of fashion products has sped up industrial productions with consequent growing of potential environmental impacts. For these reasons and other social aspects, there is a large pressure on the fashion supply chain to reduce its environmental footprint. In this thesis, a case study representative of the new trends toward sustainable fashion is analyzed in order to evaluate the environmental effects of a representative product, i.e. shoes, manufactured following new paradigms more in line with the UN sustainable development goals. Evea is a company that supports sustainable fashion by using natural materials such as latex obtained from Hevea trees and by adopting less environmentally harmful processes in their production. In particular, Evea Eco-fashion shoes have been evaluated by life cycle analysis (LCA) methodology. All data required to calculate environmental impacts are provided directly from Evea, and integrated with databases or similar literature studies. Simapro software, commonly used for LCA studies, was used for the life cycle analysis of Evea Eco-fashion shoes and all data related to the shoes were inserted in the software as inputs and outputs. In consideration of calculation results, the processes with the highest environmental impact were determined and suggestions for their improvement were presented.
