“Her – Private is political!” is a curatorship of feminist art aimed at making women’s battle for the public sphere visible. By starting from a historical analysis of social change concerning women’s role in society, and by continuing through a historical analysis of feminist art, we created a curatorship based on the theme of “body”. The body is indeed often an interest at stake in the definition of social identities. Based on this fil-rouge we propose an exhibition, at the Galera San Soda in Milan, characterised by three themes: Habitus, Gesta, Anima. The exhibition shows how feminist artists have progressively represented women’s body as conventional (Habitus), subversive (Gesta) and immaterial (Anima). By drawing on feminist art itinerary, our exhibition displays, therefore, different phases of the process of women’s achievement of a new social identity: History (H), Emancipation (E), Reconstruction (R).
“Her – Il personale è politico!”
