Urban regeneration of Milan's San Cristoforo area : green as the connecting element for the city of the future

The transformation process of the city consists on the generation of urban fractures, formed as a result of social, economic change and following the modification of the way in which the urban link and the city itself are conceived and used. The area surrounding the city is a characterizing and livelihood element for the city organism, which turns out to be the central nucleus of attraction and direction, capable of incorporating a wider system. Reading the city means understanding its flows, understanding its directions and inclinations; understand their stratifications and interpret their symbols. History helps us identify the structure and soul of an urban fabric, making us skilled interpreters and designers. Giving shape to the void and new cohesion to the fracture, in the reality of Milan, grasping the importance of the existing elements, redesigning the fronts and restoring centrality to the public space: a resource for social aggregation and limitation of disparities. Designing to connect and to unite, in a city between past and future, where local history intertwines with the hopes of a global reality, full of contrasts and possibilities.Urban regeneration of Milan's San Cristoforo area. The existing void is conceived as a resource to connect and resolve the disused urban space.

Leggere la città significa comprenderne i flussi, le direzioni e le inclinazioni; identificare le stratificazioni e interpretarne i loro simboli. La storia ci aiuta a identificare la struttura e l'anima di un tessuto urbano, rendendoci interpreti e progettisti abili. Dare forma al vuoto e nuova coesione alla frattura, nella realtà di Milano; cogliere l'importanza degli elementi esistenti, ridisegnare i fronti e ridare centralità allo spazio pubblico: una risorsa per l'aggregazione sociale e la limitazione delle disparità. Progettare per connettersi e unire, in una città tra passato e futuro, dove la storia locale si intreccia con le speranze di una realtà globale, piena di contrasti e possibilità.
