In this paper the use of seawater as mixing water for concrete has been analyzed in order to reduce the adoption of potable water, shortage and precious source in the next future. In particular, the aim of this paper is the analysis of how the use of seawater affects the fresh and hardened concrete properties, evaluating compressive strength resistance both at early and long ages. Through a scientific literature review it has been possible to value the possible use of seawater to build durable and sustainable concrete structures. Lastly, the use of mineral additions has been evaluated, such as fly ash (FA) and metakaolin (MK) to improve seawater concrete characteristics, in order to increase concrete sustainability.

Abstract
In this paper the use of seawater as mixing water for concrete has been analyzed in order to reduce the adoption of potable water, shortage and precious source in the next future. In particular, the aim of this paper is the analysis of how the use of seawater affects the fresh and hardened concrete properties, evaluating compressive strength resistance both at early and long ages. Through a scientific literature review it has been possible to value the possible use of seawater to build durable and sustainable concrete structures. Lastly, the use of mineral additions has been evaluated, such as fly ash (FA) and metakaolin (MK) to improve seawater concrete characteristics, in order to increase concrete sustainability.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
