Coral. La lettura nell'era della condivisione. Analisi della lettura in rete e format per una piattaforma di social reading

In a world in which the digital way of moving information is changing how we experience everyday life in all its aspect, the publishing world is being affected by this transformation both in its contents and in its media. A text does not exists only on paper anymore and over time it has assumed features increasingly connected to the digital world in its formats and in the experience created for the reader. What does reading mean in 2020? How does the web user interacts with reading at a time when the sharing society mindset pushes people to make their whole life public? These are the questions that prompted this thesis. The dissertation will be opened with a wide historical and analytical research on the media used to read texts. Then, the focus will shift to social reading with an analysis aimed to understand how the digital environment transforms reading processes and highlights the social dimension of the book. The answer to the central question around which I built this thesis is contained in an in-depth research on reading habits in the social ecosystem which is the Internet. The dissertation will be continued with a quantitative and qualitative investigation on the user’s habits and needs in the act of reading e-books and on the different digital reading environments, with the aim of drawing a thorough map of online reading. This long analytical process led to the design of Coral, a social reading platform which proposes a new way to experience the sharing of the act of reading, exploiting a simple and immediate communicative language, capable of answering to the needs of speed, sociality and orality requested from the readers-users.

In un momento storico in cui il digitale sta modificando giorno dopo giorno il nostro modo di vivere tutti gli aspetti della quotidianità, il mondo dell’editoria non è esente da questa trasformazione sia nei suoi formati che nei suoi supporti. Un testo non esiste più soltanto sulla carta e nel tempo ha assunto caratteristiche sempre più legate al mondo del digitale sia nel formato che nell’esperienza di fruizione offerta al lettore. Cosa significa leggere nel 2020? In che modo il lettore-utente si relaziona alla lettura in un’epoca in cui l’ansia da condivisione spinge le persone a rendere pubblica la propria esperienza? Sono queste le domande che hanno dato spunto alla stesura del mio elaborato di tesi. Per rispondere, verrà affrontata in primo luogo una ricerca storica e analitica sui supporti mediali legati all’atto della lettura. Il focus si sposterà poi sul social reading, analizzando il modo in cui l’ambiente digitale contribuisce alla trasformazione del processo della lettura e mette in risalto la sua dimensione sociale. La questione centrale attorno a cui ho costruito il mio elaborato si racchiude in una ricerca approfondita sulle abitudini di lettura nell’ecosistema sociale della Rete. L’analisi proseguirà con un’indagine quantitativa e qualitativa sul lettore e gli ambienti digitali legati alla lettura, con il fine di redigere una mappa approfondita della lettura in rete. Questo lungo processo analitico ha portato all’elaborazione progettuale di Coral, un format di fruizione del social reading che descrive una modalità di fruizione della lettura innovativa, sfruttando il linguaggio di comunicazione immediato e semplice, capace di rispondere alle esigenze di velocità, socialità e oralità richieste dai lettori-utenti.
