Reinterpretazione dell'immagine degli spazi di lettura in una chiave contemporanea. Un gesto, una storia. L'evoluzione degli spazi di lettura

The thesis deals with investigating the specific and intense relationship that develops between the reader, the book and the space in which the action of reading takes place, a relationship that has changed throughout history, in relation to the method of each of the three components of the relationship. The reader is increasingly free, capable, independent, cultured, sensitive. The book, from the past of a bulky and heavy element, is today an object that accompanies everyday life. It moves easily occupying the minutes, the hours (when possible) interstitial between different activities, until today reaching the abstract form of the e-book. What is a book? What is its value in today's society? The space, from individual to collective, from intimate to shared, from improvised to equipped, in the library has taken the form of the maximum expression of its identity - the library has proposed, over time, in different forms, different characters. In the contemporary world, in relation to the new digital tendencies of the dissemination and conservation of knowledge, it still has an important role. Is it still important to build (therefore use) libraries? What do they represent for civil society? Are they still constructions that have value today? Are concentrations of culture still used? Are they emblems of collective memory? At the end of the research path of these themes, the thesis deals with the project experimentation, in order to verify the validity and the meaning. The project for the new Varna Library, the subject of a competition of ideas, offers the opportunity to give a space to the reader - book relationship and see how the dimensional, proportional, material, lighting, functional, chromatic aspects etc. produce effects of these relationships and build the "right atmosphere" in which it takes place.

La tesi si occupa di indagare il rapporto specifico e intenso che si sviluppa tra il lettore, il libro e lo spazio in cui avviene l’azione della lettura, relazione che è mutata nel corso della storia, in relazione al metodo di ciascuno dei tre componenti della relazione. Il lettore è sempre piu’ libero, capace, indipendente, acculturato, sensibile. Il libro, da un passato di elemento ingombrante e pesante, è oggi un oggetto che accompagna la vita quotidiana. Si sposta con facilità occupando i minuti, le ore (quando possibile) interstiziali tra diverse attività, fino a raggiungere oggi la forma astratta dell’e-book. Che cos’è un libro? Qual è il suo valore nella società odierna? Lo spazio, da individuale a collettivo, da intimo a condiviso, da improvvisato ad attrezzato, nella biblioteca ha preso la forma della massima espressione della sua identità – la biblioteca si è proposta, nel tempo, in diverse forme, diversi caratteri. Nella contemporaneità, in relazione alle nuove tendenze digitali della disseminazione e conservazione della conoscenza, essa ha ancora un ruolo importante. È ancora importante costruire (perciò usare) le biblioteche? Cosa rappresentano per la società civile? Sono ancora costruzioni che hanno valore oggi? Sono ancora concentrazioni di cultura usati? Sono emblemi di memoria collettiva? La tesi si occupa, a conclusione del percorso di ricerca di questi temi, della sperimentazione progettuale, al fine di verificare la validità e il senso. Il progetto per la nuova Biblioteca di Varna, oggetto di un concorso di idee, offre l’occasione per dare uno spazio abitabile alla relazione lettore – libro e vedere come gli aspetti dimensionali, proporzionali, materici, luministici, funzionali, cromatici ecc. producano effetti di tali relazioni e costruiscano la “giusta atmosfera” in cui essa ha luogo.
