Energy production is one of the first causes of CO2 emissions and the energy efficiency plays a central role in containing its increase. Energy Service Companies (ESCos) are key players in the provision of energy efficiency services and they are considered a strategic vehicle to foster energy efficiency implementation across countries. A significant evolution in terms of complexity and comprehensiveness of the services, number of companies and project implemented, market volume and dimension characterize the ESCos’ market. Such growth and fast transformation, combined with the services expansion, lead to the need of a tool able to analyse market dynamics. Therefore, the first goal of the study is to develop a business assessment tool that represents ESCo in terms of services offered and to whom, the second aim is to define which opportunities the firm can exploit starting from the its current business assessment, and the third one is to analyse market dynamics and to forecast future market trends. Starting from a literature review of the studies which analyses the energy efficiency services offered by ESCos, the lack of a comprehensive tool able to reflect the industry evolution emerged, and an innovative framework was developed based on some selected characterizations. The final result was an all-embracing map listing all services and technologies offered by ESCos and all clients to whom such enterprises refer to. Starting from the ESCo proposition, reasonable opportunities between the current clients and the potential ones, and services currently offered and the ones that could be offered were pointed out. The new model was validated by an ad hoc Italian ESCo sample. They considered the framework structure accurate and complete, and the opportunities properly defined. The new innovative framework enables to assess company proposition and to better understand how the company’s offer is oriented, while the emerging opportunities allow the firm to benchmark its forecasts with the highlighted opportunities. Once the tool was applied, its potentials in reading market dynamics clearly emerged, considering it valuable both for the competitor analysis in order to understand if the company is in line with the other ESCos who have the same market direction, and for the policy makers and strategy developers since they clarify important market issues.

Abstract
Once the tool was applied, its potentials in reading market dynamics clearly emerged, considering it valuable both for the competitor analysis in order to understand if the company is in line with the other ESCos who have the same market direction, and for the policy makers and strategy developers since they clarify important market issues.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
