Methods and models of complex networks analysis are often employed to study real-world graphs in a number of fields including computer sciences, biology, social sciences and economics. In this last area, the network analysis of a few international trade networks, such as the World Trade Network and the Large-scale land acquisitions network, has received interest from the scientific community and different studies published in recent years have investigated their properties and characteristics. Despite network analysis methods have become very popular, there are only few studies concerning Trade in Services and most of them focus only on one specific country, a limit mainly dictated by difficulties in retrieving data describing this type of trade at an international level. However, the creation of an exhaustive and consistent dataset of the international trade of services has recently been the subject of a research conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Trade Organization that produced the Balanced Trade in Services Dataset. We leverage on this dataset to describe the international Trade in Services through a set of networks and we analyse the graphs using different algorithms and methods to unveil the main features that characterize this system. The results help us to describe similarities and differences with other international trades and also allow us to confirm or disprove some previous beliefs on services trades. To the best of our knowledge this is the first work analysing the Trade in Services from an international point of view using complex networks methods.

Abstract
To the best of our knowledge this is the first work analysing the Trade in Services from an international point of view using complex networks methods.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
