Il racconto del fiume. Il Rio Douro, paesaggio, ambiente e nuove opportunità di valorizzazione attraverso l'arte

Iniciar um projeto quando eu visitar um lugar” (Álvaro Siza , Textos 01, 1963-2008) The proposed thesis starts right here: from the place, from the architecture of the adega and from ‘what already exists’, in the valley of the Douro river. The theme investigates the first stretch of the river, a site strongly characterized by the transformative action of man and marked by the dissemination of small urban places throughout the area. We are located kilometers away from the Douro Internacional, declared a Unesco heritage site in 2001 and highly suggestive for its shale mountains. For this reason, this area is often considered a void, a transitional space within the undeveloped landscape. The project proposal focuses on the creation of a system that can become a place of reactivation in this territory, where nature is left unchanged, indeed, the repopulation of native plants is encouraged in order to restore the balance that, due to monoculture is been altered over the decades. The solution identifies in front of the Lomba beach an area where art, landscape and architecture come together in a single project to give rise to a structure that becomes an enrichment for small communities and proposes a cultural program that aims to revitalize this part of Douro valley. The intervention is the result of a personal journey that has now come to an end that encompasses my need to bring together my last year’s experience in the city of Porto and my personal passion for art, thus proposing an artist’s residence. The design declares a system of spaces that communicate with each other and conform to the territory according to the system of terraces and paths. These rhythm in sequence the possible accesses and the relationships between the built and the landscape. These are solitary and independent elements, but at the same time forming part of a single system, which allows the development of a complete overall design.

“Iniciar um projeto quando eu visitar um lugar”(Álvaro Siza , Textos 01, 1963-2008) La tesi proposta parte proprio da qui: dal luogo, dall’architettura dell’ adega e dal ‘ciò che già c’è’, nella valle del fiume Douro. Il tema indaga il primo tratto del fiume, un sito fortemente caratterizzato dall’azione trasformativa dell’uomo e segnata dalla disseminazione di piccoli luoghi urbani diffusi sul territorio. Ci troviamo distanti chilometri dal Douro Internacional, dichiarato patrimonio dell’Unesco nel 2001 e fortemente suggestivo per le sue montagne di scisto. Per questo motivo questa zona è spesso valutata come un vuoto, uno spazio di transizione all’interno del paesaggio poco valorizzato. La proposta progettuale verte sulla realizzazione di un sistema che possa divenire un luogo di riattivazione in questo territorio, dove la natura è lasciata inalterata, anzi, viene incentivata la ripopolazione di piante autoctone in modo da ristabilire l’equilibrio che, a causa della monocoltura è stato alterato nel corso dei decenni. La soluzione individua di fronte alla spiaggia di Lomba un’area dove arte, paesaggio ed architettura si fondono in un unico progetto per dare luogo ad una struttura che diventi di arricchimento per le piccole comunità e propone un programma culturale che miri a rivitalizzare questa parte di valle del Douro. L’intervento è esito di un percorso personale ormai volto al termine che racchiude la mia esigenza di riunire l’esperienza dell’ultimo anno nella città di Porto e la passione personale all’arte proponendo quindi una residenza d’artista. La progettazione dichiara un sistema di spazi che dialogano tra loro e si conformano sul territorio secondo il sistema dei terrazzamenti e dei percorsi. Questi ritmano in sequenza i possibili accessi e le relazioni tra il costruito e il paesaggio. Si tratta di elementi solitari e indipendenti, ma allo stesso tempo facenti parte di un solo sistema, il che permette lo sviluppo di un completo disegno d’insieme.
