The purpose of this report is to give a perspective over the role that international institutions have in Sustainable Development. The notions around this concept are taken from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular from the 17th, Partnerships for the Goals, around which the success of the whole initiative lies. This is also the topic of Chapter 2. Chapter 3 focus on The World Bank, giving a brief overview of its interventional areas and introducing its role in supporting Sustainable Development with the establishment of the SDG Fund. Finally, a real case example is illustrated with the Kiribati Adaptation Project, a climate change resilience program that took place in one of the most vulnerable countries on Earth for what concerns global warming and rising sea level effects. Chapter 4 takes into consideration UNCTAD and its key role in building partnerships for supporting SD especially in economically vulnerable countries. The Strategic Framework for private investments in SDGs developed by the agency is illustrated, followed by the BioTrade initiative, which focus on local programs that put in relation commerce and ecosystems. Finally the Business Linkages program, that aims at connecting TNCs and SMEs in developing countries, is presented with a real case program implemented in Zambia. Chapter 5 illustrates the NGO Crossroads Foundation and the UN-Business Action Hub, a platform developed in collaboration with the UN Global Compact that allows to match UN agencies and private companies to foster partnerships and projects that can be mutually beneficial. Also in this case an example from a real project, implemented in Sudan, is illustrated. Chapter 6 topic is the role of business in Sustainable Development. Corporate Sustainability, a notion that moves the concept of CSR towards Corporate Shared Value, principles are illustrated as seen for the UN Global Compact perspective. Secondly, The World Business Council on Sustainable Development is presented: a global organization led by business companies that aims to guide private enterprises in implementing social and environmental impacts in their core strategies, with the purpose of contributing to the SDGs while doing business. Finally, Chapter 7 takes into consideration the role that individuals can have with a sustainable lifestyle, presenting the Good Life Goals: a set of actions built for every SDG that each person can take for contributing to Sustainable Development.
Lo scopo di questo report è di fornire una prospettiva sul ruolo delle istituzioni internazionali nel supportare lo Sviluppo Sostenibile. Le definizioni di questo tema sono tratte dalle UN Sustainable Development Goals, con particolare attenzione alla 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Questo è anche l’argomento principale del Capitolo 2. Il Capitolo 3 si concentra sulla Banca Mondiale, fornendo una panoramica generale sulle principali aree d’intervento ed introducendone il ruolo nel supporto allo Sviluppo Sostenibile attraverso il Fondo SDG. Infine, viene fornito un caso di studio reale, il Kiribati Adaptation Project: un programma di adattamento al cambiamento climatico implementato in una delle aree del pianeta più vulnerabili ad esso. Il Capitolo 4 prende in considerazione l’UNCTAD e il suo ruolo chiave nel costruire partnerships mirate allo Sviluppo Sostenibile, in particolar modo nei Paesi più economicamente vulnerabili. Vengono illustrati il Framework Strategico di supporto agli investimenti privati nelle SDGs e il Progetto Biotrade, che si occupa di programmi a dimensione locale volti a mettere in relazione commercio ed ecosistemi. Infine viene presentato il programma Business Linkages, che mira a connettere multinazionali e piccole-medie imprese nei Paesi in via di sviluppo. I temi del capitolo 5 sono la ONG Crossroads Foundation e lo UN-Business Action Hub, una piattaforma sviluppata in collaborazione con l’agenzia UN Global Compact che si pone come punto di contatto tra Agenzie ONU e aziende private col fine di promuovere partnerships a progetti che possano essere mutuamente vantaggiosi. L’argomento del Capitolo 6 è il ruolo delle compagnie for-profit nello Sviluppo Sostenibile. Viene presentato il World Business Council on Sustainable Development: un’organizzazione globale formata da compagnie private il cui obbiettivo è stabilire linee guida per implementare gli impatti sociali ed ambientali nelle core-strategies del business. Infine il Capitolo 7 prende in considerazione il ruolo dell’individuo attraverso uno stile di vita sostenibile: l’esempio fornito sono le Good Life Goals.
