Abstract
The thesis aims at developing a project of conservation and valorization, starting from the knowledge and the analysis of the context, of the former church of San Francesco in Vimercate, in order to transmit the built cultural heritage and the values associated with it to future generations. The valorization project started with a concept elaborated during the acoustic workshop held by Andrea Giglio (researcher in the acoustic field inside Politecnico of Milano) proved to be the most interesting enhancement proposal to pursue for a new use of the former religious space and immediately found the enthusiasm of one of the building’s owners, Dante Gelmetti, who had been interested for years in re-opening to the public the part of the Church remained uninhabited. The building which is in an advanced state of decay needs to be restored in its architectural and artistic system to preserve the material integrity. The public fruition is than fundamental to cover the maintenance costs and make the citizens aware of a place which is part of their historical memory. «listening is not an exclusively musical theme, but also an architectural one.
