Abstract
The belief that art was once decorative and is now a communicative means of social and political ideas is an unauthentic statement. Art has not endured a lineal process from simple to complex but has unequivocally affected and stimulated landscape architecture, fabricating a means through which one can express himself and explore the natural world around him. Specifically pointing out that colour plays a crucial role in art, one that is much too avoided or customary or even merely left for chance. Somehow, we have been largely educated to refrain ourselves from using it so vividly in urban and landscape literature. This thesis is built on the hypothesis that considerable times throughout history landscape architects and designers have turned to art for insight and inspiration. One that has left an unmeasurable legacy was Brazilian landscape architect, Roberto Burle Marx, here we attempt to peel off the intricate layers that shaped both him as a landscape architect and his gardens. For such a towering member in the landscape society his deep-rooted influence is very much felt through the work itself, the very imprint he made on the Brazilian landscape. One of the main prospects that have affected landscape through time and is most crucial is colour, which will be a addressed throughout this thesis and how Brazilian landscaper Burle Marx has managed to successfully alter the way people perceive such a landscape and how he was able to use such an imperative tool to his advantage, whether it may be in terms of visual aspects, figurative aspects or even psychological. Landscape and colour are both cohesive forces that have stood the test of time throughout the years and will continue to do so for more generations to come.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
