Resilient landscape and public spaces : strategies and applications. Project location : Var valley (eco-valley), Nice, France

Nice is s a seaport city and a tourist attraction point in the Mediterranean region of France. It is a city that has a rich historical background and it is possible to see the development in years by the fabric of the city and the traces of the past. One of the most characteristic features of the Nice is its rivers: Paillon, Magan, and Var. The city’s urban fabric gathered around these three rivers. Paillon river is where the old city is located. However, in years with the construction of the airport and A8 highway, Var Valley started to become the center of the new development. This part of Nice attracts a lot of people for business purposes. Therefore, the municipality has introduced the project of Eco-Valley. The purpose of this project is to give service to people who visit this region, increase the work potential while providing sustainable mobility with the bicycle paths and new tram lines that connects the valley to the old city. In the current situation, this area consists of suburban houses and warehouses. Today it’s planned to introduce parks, greenery, recreational and commercial areas. Another important node of this region is the Allianz Riviera Stadium. It is located at the node of A8 highway on the East part of the river. The stadium provides a great amount of flow of people and this creates an immense potential. The problem and also the potential of the area is the lack of connection between the two parts of the river. Therefore, in this project, a contemporary art museum introduced across the stadium with a pedestrian bridge. The key to the strategy of this project is connection. While increasing the urban fabric of this area the transect hierarchy is kept and environmental methodology is integrated by creating green corridors that are blending the urban fabric with the existing natural network.

Nizza è una città portuale e un punto di attrazione turistica nella regione mediterranea della Francia. È una città che ha un ricco background storico ed è possibile vedere lo sviluppo negli anni dal tessuto della città e le tracce del passato. Una delle caratteristiche più caratteristiche di Nizza sono i suoi fiumi: Paillon, Magan e Var. Il tessuto urbano della città si è raccolto attorno a questi tre fiumi. Il fiume Paillon è dove si trova la città vecchia. Tuttavia, negli anni con la costruzione dell'aeroporto e dell'autostrada A8, Var Valley iniziò a diventare il centro del nuovo sviluppo. Questa parte di Nizza attira molte persone per motivi di lavoro. Pertanto, il comune ha introdotto il progetto di Eco-Valley. Lo scopo di questo progetto è quello di fornire un servizio alle persone che visitano questa regione, aumentare il potenziale di lavoro fornendo allo stesso tempo una mobilità sostenibile con le piste ciclabili e le nuove linee di tram che collegano la valle alla città vecchia. Nella situazione attuale, questa zona è costituita da case e magazzini suburbani. Oggi è prevista l'introduzione di parchi, vegetazione, aree ricreative e commerciali. Un altro nodo importante di questa regione è lo stadio Allianz Riviera. Si trova nel nodo dell'autostrada A8 nella parte est del fiume. Lo stadio offre una grande quantità di flusso di persone e questo crea un potenziale immenso. Il problema e anche il potenziale dell'area è la mancanza di connessione tra le due parti del fiume. Pertanto, in questo progetto, un museo di arte contemporanea introdotto attraverso lo stadio con un ponte pedonale. La chiave della strategia di questo progetto è la connessione. Mentre si aumenta il tessuto urbano di quest'area viene mantenuta la gerarchia del transetto e la metodologia ambientale viene integrata creando corridoi verdi che fondono il tessuto urbano con la rete naturale esistente.
